more AHHH hexies

I have caught up with the latest "spiderweb" hexies. Think the star ones are more to my liking but I am enjoying doing all of them so the end result will be interesting. I am using any scraps that I can find with the idea of them all having flowers, plains and a tone on tone or the like. Think I am still within those perimeters.

The Picnic

Today is Teddy Bears Picnic, although these two are not Teddy Bears they would love to come on the picnic. The old fellow thinks that if he doesn't have a break now he won't get one for quite a while, both " Patchwork Santa" and "So Deer to my Heart" Mrs Deer and Babies could be a bit over dressed, as it is a very warm day in Melbourne. Wishing all our friends in Blogg land a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New year, Hugs from Rosalie. Over at Melody's Blog you can meet other Picnic friends.

Christopher James Kenny

In the early hours of Sunday morning my beautiful boy ,Christopher, fell asleep and forgot to wake up. He was an incredible young man who loved life, lived it to the full, had a great thirst for knowledge and a longing for adventure. This was achieved in February when he moved to Canberra to take part in a Graduate Programme with the Dept of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research. At the request of his fellow graduates in the programme he will be graduating with them on Friday.

He cheated death many times but on Sunday it was the other way around and his Glycogen Storage Disease won. He faced many adversities with aplomb,a great smile and a wicked sense of humour. Everyone who knew him loved him and to him no-one was a stranger just a new friend to be made.

He will be missed by many, many people and forgotten by none.

Spread your angel wings my beautiful boy and fly! I love you, miss you and forever there will be a Christopher sized hole in my heart.

Ahhh hexies

Tonya at Hillbilly Handiworks has been posting some AHH hexies and thanks to Melody I have been sewing them. When Tonya said that the next one would have 96 pieces I decided this was one I definitely was NOT going to do... and then I saw it. It is beautiful and hers looks like a snowflake. Mine is more stars but I love them all so here is a photo of nos 1-5. Enjoy.

Teddy Bears Picnic

This is Cubby, a small mohair Bear I made lots of years ago,he is 29cm( 11 1/2 1n). Like Ratty and Mole in "The Wind in the Willows" Cubby likes to mess around with boats, so if the weather is kind, he would love a riverbank or even a seaside picnic, he is happy to pack his blue box with treats and share his toys with other friends at the picnic. go along to Melody's Blog to see who is joining Cubby at the picnic.

These are the Sept blocks from Larissa. Beautiful card that she took the front photo for. This is for the Quilt block swap Australia that melody and I are both in.
This is the block that I sent to Brenda in Ohio, called "storm at sea" It's a very clever block as it has curves but it really only has straight lines.

Here are my August hexies from Leslie in Canada. They are well travelled as they have been from Canada to Australia ,back to Canada and finally here at my home,I love the angel card that Leslie sent.

Communiyt Treasures

Today I have two community treasures to share, this wonderful mosaic seat close to the school safety crossing is dedicated to our crossing supervisor. I live in the same street as the Primary school and not far from the Secondary College, so see the great job Geoff does, he is such a friendly, happy man so good at his job, he knows all the students and local adults who use the crossing by name, all get a friendly greeting. Geoff is so well known in the area, passing motorists give him a toot and wave. He is a real treasure.

The seat has messages of love and peace, and a very good likeness of Geoff. The plaque below tells the stoy of the seat. Thank you Melody for the opportunity to share our Treasures.

Here is Justin sitting out enjoying the beautiful sunny day we are having in Melbourne. He is a Hillbrook bear made from tipped mohair. I love his beret makes him look very dashing and it will keep the sun out of his eyes. Anyone who knows me will know why he came home with me. Blue is my favourite colour. Join other picnickers here. great day for a picnic

Teddy Bears Picnic

Meet Lily, she would love to come to the Picnic today, it is a lovely sunny day in Melbourne, perfect for a picnic, I made Lily from a Mariette Noorman design, she has a chubby tummy, and in her check smock I always thought she looks a little bit pregnant,L.O.L.

Now for something a bit different, this prickly little fellow might not be welcome on the picnic, but yesterday evening my husband saw him (or her) strolling across our road, up near the corner of a busy main road, after quite a lot of friendly persuasion we managed to get him into a box, and took him for a drive down to the end of our road and released him into the scrub near the Plenty River.

We have never seen an Echidna in our suburban area before, and wondered how far he had walked to get there.

Tuesday's Treasure

A couple of weeks ago DH showed me a bird's nest that was tucked away on the fence behind some lattice plastic. We peered in and there were 3 tiny blue speckled eggs. The next day there were 4. A couple of days ago mum had flown off so I thought I'd look in and check the eggs. Dumb me saw some black fluff and thought "Oh no the eggs have gone mouldy" then I looked a bit closer. There were 3 chicks nestled top to toe in the nest. This is nota very good photo as I'm a bit too short to get above the nest but you can just see the chicks. I think the 4th egg failed to hatch. You can just see the egg under one of the babies.

My Town Tea House finished

Here is the Bronwyn Hayes block from My Town all finished.... well as finished as it can be given that I'm not doing the shading( well not yet .. may go back and do it later) I changed a few things from the original,.... the buttons ,menu and signs but that is the beauty of this that it's something individual. I love this block and is probably my favourite. Just need this month's copy of Homespun which is in the shops but as a subscriber I have yet to receive, so I can start on the Town hall ( had a sneak peek at a friend's copy!)

Goodies galore

How lucky am I? I have just won some fat quarters from Kris of Lavender quilts, some hexie cards and fabrics from Joanne of Possum Blossom Patchwork and a purse kit from Bronwyn Hayes of Red Brolly fame. I even got the blue kit and Rosalie won a yellow kit. Weds, Thursday and Friday the postie brought me one parcel so now they have all arrived and I am feeling very spoilt. Love them all. The choccie fro Kris made it to the photo but lasted about 10 secs after that. Love all the Red Brolly paper and card too. Seems our group is on a winning streak as Rosalie won a giveaway at Rag Tag Stitching ( Michelle ) and Melody has just won a Go Cutter. Well done to both of them.

My Tuesday Treasure post today is my small collection of M. I Hummel Figurines, I inherited them from my Mum-In-Law, I love them. The Hummel figurines were modelled on drawings by Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel, a Bavarian Nun. Made in the 1930's in Germany and Switzerland. I love their sweet faces.

This little fellow with his white Rabbits was Mums favorite.

The Little Angel blowing her Trumpet is the oldest, and my favorite.

The girl has her school bag on her back, and maybe her lunch in the basket. And I believe the other two are big Brother and little Sister.

Comments for Rosalie's post

We must try and fix this problem so people can leave you comments.  What a lovely post today.  I think you are so right, the simple pleasures are the best.  I just love freshly baked bread. Hope you are having a wonderful week.

Simple Pleasures, My Treasures

Bright Nasturtiums from my garden in a little brown pottery vase, a full fruit bowl, a loaf of home baked bread fresh from the oven, and a favorite cheeky little bird, which cost $3 from Bunnings, it doesn't take a fortune to make me happy. These simple pleasures are my Treasures this week. Join Melody at " The house on the side of the hill " for more Tuesday Treasures.

This little Black Bear was brought home to me by my Daughter after a trip to Canada, I had to open the can to let him out, I thought he could join Teresa's Canadian Bear on the picnic to make him feel at home. Sadly my photo did not show the can up well. According to the can these Bears are "Ursus Americanus". Among the details on the can is, It ia essential that we preserve the black bears' habitat as they can't live without wooded areas, fresh water streams, and an abundance of wildlife. Remember if you see any bears in the wild, DO NOT GO NEAR THEM! they are wild animals! Treat them with respect AND BE CAREFUL!. Good advice if we are lucky enough to get to Canada. Joining Melody at" The House on the Side of the Hill" for Teddy bears Picnic.

small teddies in a big world

Here are two of my collector bears. As you can see they live in a special perspex box to keep them special. They are both "small bears in a big world" limited editions. The mauve one is about an inch tall and designed by Theresa Yang, and the Pierrot clown is about two inches but has her own little puppet bear. This was designed by Tina Richardson. I just fell in love with the clown and had to pay her off many years ago. I hope they enjoy the picnic with Melody even though they are in their plastic bubbles. It looks like rain here so at least they will keep dry.

Sept hexies and August block

I have just finished my September hexies for Heather in England and they should be in the post by Monday or Tuesday. I have been googling Cath Kitson fabrics and hope that the hexies I have done are correct. Do love the soft pinks.
Also here is a picture of the block that I sent to Heather in Canada for the Quilt block Swap Australia. Heather has received it so I can show it. Can you see a recurrent theme??

Tuesday TreasuresToday

Today I would like to join Tuesday Treasures with Melody, and share with you my favorite little Teapot. It is Devon Motto Ware and belonged to my Husbands Grandmother, It is a two cuppa, so I enjoy using it when I am by myself. I love any china decorated with cottages and gardens.

On the other side it has "Take a cup of kindness for auld lang syne". The little three legged table it sits on is also a treasure, as it was made and carved by my Paternal Grandfather. Golly I just realized the carving is a Hexagon, I sure am hooked on Hexies.

teddy bears picnic

Emma and Blair Bear are coming to the picnic today. Emma is made by Hillbrook Bears ( Helen Hill ) and just begged me to bring her home from a show many years ago. I just love her hat and the expression on her face.Blair Bear is made by Bear Hugs Unlimited ( Jacquie Campbell) and he just appealed. Jacquie doesn't make bears anymore but she does do the most exquisite glass beads which you can check out here. Lucky me I have a few of her beads as well as her bear. Join in the picnic over at Melody's and lets hope the rain stays away long enough for us to have something to eat. Both of my bears are sitting on a bear tin in keeping with Mel's Tuesday's treasures.

Teddy Bears Picnic

This is Brompton, he would love to join the Picnic today, although it is so cold and wet in Melbourne, Brompton is a lovely Schulte Mohair bear, made by a dear lady, Muriel Williams who now lives in a nursing home, He wears his Dream Catcher and Autumn toned Bow tie, and is pictured with two little Brigitte Dorey " Brigart" hand painted wooden bears from my collection. I am so happy to have Brompton as a lovely memento of Muriel who can no longer make bears. Pop over to The House On The Side Of The Hill to meet other picnic goers.

July block from Cathy

This is the block that arrived today from Cathy ( CrafteeCC) This is for the QuiltBlock Swap Australia and this is the 3rd month I have been a part of the swap. I love the purple as it is so vibrant. Cathy also sent some ricrac in matching colours which was a nice surprise. As you can see from the mess around the block I have some tidying up to do near my sewing table! Off to Jeff's shed tomorrow for the Quilt show and I'm writing a shopping list so I don't overspend!

my town blocks done

Here are photos of the school house and the church from Homespun magazine My Town BOM. The church I wanted to be as close to a blue stone as possible and I like the effect I have got. Sorry that it's on the side.

A cold day for a picnic

Here are two of my burgundy bears. The larger one I made in the black tipped mohair and the small one was a gift a long time ago. It's a very cold miserable day in Melbourne so we are joining the picnic here from the comfort of inside. Hope everyone else rugs up warm for the picnic... maybe we need hot chocolate and marshmallows.

Teddy Bears Picnic

Little Tommy wants to join the Picnic today, he will bring his own little tool Box. Tommy is a Shas Bear, although only four inches high he is very heavy, he is one of my favorites, as in my working days I was a window dresser, one of my colleagues was called tommy, we were all very protective of our tools, woebetide anyone who used your tools without permission, so when I saw this little bear at a bear show I just had to have him. He brings back such happy memories.

Teddy Bear's picnic and a tip

Here are two pandas that would have liked to join in the picnic yesterday but Blogger wouldn't let me add photos. The one with the coin around it's neck I made and the other was made by my DD1 . I think they both have their own personalities showing through. It was a brisk day in Melbourne for the picnic, lucky these two guys have fur coats.

I posted about my blocks that came from Robyn and Cheryl... lovely blocks. One of Robyn's, the red had run so, having heard this tip thought I'd try it. I spread Greek natural yoghurt on the run, left it for a couple of hours and lo and behold the run has gone. As you can see from the photo, both look good to me.

On a serious note I am visiting someone I haven't seen in a long time this afternoon. We go back to Nursing Mother's so a good 24 years. Anyway, yesterday I found out that it was her son that was the soldier killed in Afghanistan recently. I'm sure we'll have a cry together as well as some hugs. Hope I can help her in some way even if it is just to cry together.
