Challenge part two plus an AHHHor 2

Just a sneak at two more of those AHHH's See I can do easy ones too. The bottom one is called Illusions but not sure that the illusion came out the way I coloured it. This one had 108 diamond pieces.  and I did a LOT of reverse sewing.... just could not get the bits in the right spot.Think I may be a little bit nuts.

Here are the March blocks of Kilmore's Honour quilt. This is Alfred Frank Teakle's block.

Colin Henry Cameron who died aged 23 yrs.

Michael Francis Ryan... enlisted as Joseph McKinley He has a story to tell but I'm not sure we will ever know it. I am not a green person at all but as I am doing this in a rainbow fashion that colour has to go in. I really like this block though and as I don't have a lot of green in my stash I actually chose a green fat quarter when my number was called on Tuesday at Kilmore.

William Stowwell Anderson who died aged 25 yrs. So sad. This was a challenge as not many reds in my stash went together and I didn't want to go pink... hope this works..and it gave me a bit more trouble. I am foundation piecing all of mine so that they come out the correct size.(still didn't get my points perfect!)
Sewing day tomorrow so enjoy your weekend, I know I will.

What have I been up to...

Saturday saw us in Geelong attending this beautiful boy's christening. Dad(Terry) is DS1's best buddy so it was lovely to be invited and DS1 managed to make his presence felt by making the microphone the priest was using go funny! Always the wag!

Last Thursday I decided that I needed something sweet so made these rock cakes that Dawn ( sweet as cinnamon) has on her blog. YUM and they didn't last very long. I have got out of the habit of baking so it was good to get back for one day!

These are the 163 pieces of the next AHHH that I have been putting off doing. Can you see why?

The final result on the left, after 3 days of stitching it together. The one on the right is one of the beginner ones I found in my box. They are both resting on the front of the piece that I hand quilted in my class a couple of weeks ago. Good job that you can't see the size of the stitches.....

... or the missed stitches on the back. This is the back of both the hand quilting and the AHHH. Don't look too closely to either.

Those AHHH's again

I have been feeling very guilty that I have had about 12 AHHH kits sitting waiting my attention. I have got back into the swing of them and here is the latest lot. While going through the box with the rest I actually came across about 8 more "beginner" kits so by the time I finish them and the 3 advanced ones I will have over 100. Think I need to see about putting them together. Anything to avoid the remaining 3... one has over 100 triangular pieces.. see the one with the green star in the centre, well 100 of that size triangles! See why I am putting off doing that one!

It is fun looking through the box and seeing all the different designs that I have done.Just not sure that they will all go together.

Enjoy the weekend, I am off to learn how to hand quilt tomorrow. Could be interesting as I hate using a thimble.

So the challenge begins...

On Wednesday night at my sewing group, over 30 of us embarked on an Honour quilt. This quilt will be made of 49 blocks(6.5") each one dedicated to people that left the areas of Wallan, Kilmore,Pyalong, Broadford etc to join in the war. Many of these were young men and sadly they didn't return.Ernest Brown's block

William Hallet Stockdale's block

David Crawford's block and

Reginald Stanley Marsh's block.

With each pattern we are given a brief history of the person that the block is for and some of them are heartbreaking.
I aim to make my quilt so that a rainbow surrounds the centre block which I think will have butterfly fabric in it somewhere.I think that this will be a very emotional journey but I'd like to say a big thank you to Maree for allowing me to share in this and I think at the end of the year there will be some amazing quilts made in honour of some very special people. May we never forget the sacrifices that some made so that we may be safe.

a present for a friend

On our trip to the Teahouse I bought a "One Day in May " pattern for this pin cushion. This is my version. The top...

The side... there are 3 different pockets around the sides of the hexagon each with a bee embroidered on it. The wings are in metallic thread and for anyone that has sewn with that well you know what a ****** it is. Anyway I am happy with the final version, even though I left off a few flowers from the top. This is a gift for a friend for her birthday.
Seems to have worked getting photos onto the blog, (fingers crossed)still not sure what hubby did but let's hope it continues to work.

Destination Teahouse

Friday saw Karin and I heading off to The Patchwork Teahouse in Warburton. Melissa Grant of One Day in May designs was going to be there and I wanted to show her my version of her "Thankful" that I had done as a BOM from the Teahouse. It is now very proudly on display in my front entrance hall and Melissa, Marilyn and Liz Stanway were all happy to see the finished product. As a "reward " I was allowed to pick another of Melissa's patterns so came away with her pattern for fabric boxes.

This is another "Blanket of Love" that I have finished.

Yet another one, thanks to my swap partners in QBSA. I have quilted them both with butterflies as they are a symbol of departed souls being in a different form.

Finally "My Town" is quilted and ready to be given away (in April) . Despite a few miscalculations I am very happy with the end result.
