claiming blog

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

This is what you do when...

.. asked by the mother-in-law to make a quilt for someone who a) has been very kind to her for a long time and b) just lost her husband. Very quick and easy to make and would you believe that I gave it to afriend to quilt at 1.30p.m on Thursday and she rang me at 4.45p.m to say it was done!! Hope that all concerned like it.The colours area bit different in real life.
This is Jenny's version of Hamilton Place. Her centre is amazing.. that fussy cutting paid off.
And this is Dianne's version of the centre. She was thrilled with the way the mitres turned out. They are all looking different but all beautiful.
After this I am going to try and sign up for Bloglovin so you may or may not hear from me ever again.

The Janome has been busy

This weekend being a public holiday one' my faithful Janome sewing machine has been busy. This is the second star quilt from my blocks in the Quilt Block Swap Australia. Think this one will be donated to Nancy's Inspirational Quilts charity.
Added the final borders to the first QBSA star quilt. Have to see about this being quilted and then I can snuggle under it on cold winter's nights! Was going to put another star fabric border but decided that would make it too big so kept it at this.
Not a very good picture but this is my finished Hamilton Place quilt. I had so much trouble wih the mitred corners on the borders I had to visit the teacher's shop for advice. Also had to buy a few bits and pieces but hey you do what you have to do! Having been given some advice on measuring, pinning and using the 45 degree angle on the ruler ( yes I did know that) I tackled the borders this morning and yeah they worked. Very happy wth the result. Must put a piccy of a couple more of these that I took at the last Kilmore meeting.
Also put the last border on Just Plain Nuts ( little brother of Nearly Insane) and I love this one too. DS 2 has decided that this would be a good one for his name to go on in the will!
Just to show that I have been doing some hand sewing too........ some more AHHHH's. The top star one I hadn't quite finished in the photo but it is done now after I had to do some reverse sewing last night as I messed up the border on the black star.As you can see my sewing space is a big mess! Hope evryone else had a good Queen's birthday. Love that we get the day off.

Kilmore Quilter's Retreat

This past weekend I joined Kilmore Quilters at Maldon for a weekend of sewing. We were able to visit this lovely shop and because the group is very lucky to be given a discount over the weekend it is no hardship to visit and spend up big.
This is the outside and..

this is the inside. There were some fabulous quilts hanging up, one that I didn't get a photo of but was tempted to get the kit ( couldn't justify the dollars but if it's there next year who knows) It was from a book called something like " Quilts from Atlantis" and the fabrics were all blue swirly ones as well as very intricate patterned ones.

These are my purchases. The red and the one under it are to finish off and back "Just Plain Nuts" ( stayed tuned), I got a half jelly roll ( 20 strips of fabric) and that will become a baby quilt, and the ladybugs will go with the two fabrics next to it for another baby quilt. While on retreat I was sent a picture ( ultrasound) of the baby that one is going to. Christopher's best friend and his wife are expecting in Nov near when we lost Christopher so I think he is sending babies to bring joy to sad days. That's my boy!

This is an iron board caddy which was the Friday night project. Just need to sew the pincushion on.
This was a fun project. I sewed 16 of my Hamilton Place stars while away so only 13 more to complete. We also sewed some items for the trade table for the quilt show in October as well as some blankets for a hospital in Albury ( ?) to wrap stillborn bubs in. All in all a successful retreat.

Came home, caught up on the ironing and the watched Eurovision. Go Denmark, lovely song.

The AHHHH 's are back

The latest in the Ahhhh's from Tonya. Some were easy, some a bit harder and some that looked easy I did a lot of reverse sewing in. The one on the right( blue ,purple and cream) looks like a cat to me . They do looka bit better in the flesh as the colours are a bit better.
Last Saturday I went to a market in Mernda and was delighted to see the buttons that are interspersed with the hexies. They are being sold to raise money for a young ( well younger than me) lady to participate in the Peter MacCallum Cancer ride. So far she has raised over $1,500 but needs to have $2,500 before she can actually do the bike ride. Anyway I was pleased to be able to add my contribution to her cause and I scored some beautiful buttons. Along with the market there was a very small but very good quilt show in the church adjoining the market. A devonshire tea was also the order of the day.
This is my next project. This was a class that I attended last Sunday at Kilmore Quilters. It was a really fun day, intense at moments but I did manage to do.....
..... the top two stars and the section of the star that goes in the middle. I managed to finish the centre star and make the star on the left on Weds when I didn't have to go to work. 3 down 29 to go! The stars are either 12", 9" or 6" and as you can see Lemoyne stars so lots of "Y" seams! Hated doing those for so long but having been given a tip on how to start them off I no longer fear them. Think this may be my project for retreat in two weeks time.

The next installment of Ahhh's

simple but effective
Rubricks cube.... woule it be able to be solved???
Stepping stones. easy
Rainbow stars. Love this one
Hmmm maybe my choice of fabrics wasn't so good.
What can I say. Did lots of unsewing on this one but I do love it. The next lot are on their way from Tonya so I'd better get thehole in my finger fixed! No really I have found a leather thimble that I can actually work with so maybe my finger will thank me.
This is a swap from QBSA from Alison
The wonky star is from Jenetta QBSA and the two 6 " blocks are from Ann. love them all. The wonky star is made up of different fabrics put into strips and them made into the star. Quirky as but it made me smile and I am so going to steal the idea!

For those of you that thought DDlooked like me after the head shave...... you might need to revise that opinion. I think she is her dad to a tee. At the final count she raised $1780 so a mammoth effort.

Going... going...gone

Lara takes the first cut, braid in hand so shoulder length hair to ......
halfway there and more scissor work....
to a number 4. Shaved and gone!
One very proud mum who didn't think we were alike. Hmmm not so sure now.
Today my 25 year old DD Rachel participated in the world's greatest shave. She has been touched by cancer three times in 2012 ( cousin, me and a friend who lost his battle on New Year's Day) so she thought she would try and raise $500. At last count today she has raised $1,570. If anyone wishes to support this worthy cause visit www.worldsgreatestshave.com anf follow the prompts to sponsor someone or make a donation. For Rachel search Rachel Kenny Victoria and follow the prompts.
Well done Rachel !
